Redistricting Simulator

An interactive model showing how district boundaries can crack, pack or protect an underrepresented group without changing the underlying population.

This interactive simulator shows how the same territory, population and votes can produce different representative outcomes depending on how district boundaries are drawn.

Users can adjust the share of Group B, its territorial concentration, and the districting scheme. The model compares neutral districting, cracking, packing and protective districting, while also auditing each map for population equality, contiguity, compactness and community fragmentation.
